Criminal Justice, A.A.S.

Program Design

This is recommended for students who wish to enter the Criminal Justice field shortly after graduation. This degree option is not recommended for students transferring to a fouryear school. Emphasis is placed on practical application as well as theory. Students develop skills required for entry into Criminal Justice or related industries.

Related Employment Fields

Career opportunities such as: police officer, paralegal, correctional officer, private investigator, fish and game warden, fire inspectors and investigators, crime science technician, bailiff, police dispatch, or security officer. Colby Community College has a 2+2 agreement with Kansas State University Salina (KState Salina), giving students an option to continue their career.

After Colby Community College

This degree is intended for law enforcement and corrections officers who have completed the basic certification academy. Academy graduates may choose to apply 12 credits from the Academy to be applied toward completion of the AAS degree.

Upon completion of the Criminal Justice technical certificate, a student may choose to enter the KLETC (KS Law Enforcement Training Center) or equivalent law enforcement academy training. Upon completion of the academy training, a student may choose to transfer those credits to CCC to be applied to the Associate of Applied Science degree through CCC.
